Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant. There are two major forms in the family of vitamin E: tocopherols and tocotrienols. In tocopherols class, there are alpha-tocopherol, beta-tocopherol, gamma-tocopherol, and delta-tocopherol. In tocotrienols class there are alpha-tocotrienols, beta-tocotrienols, gamma-tocotrienols, and delta-tocotrienols. Alpha-tocopherol is the only form of vitamin E that is actively maintained in the human body and is therefore, the form of vitamin E found in the largest quantities in the blood and tissue1. Alpha-tocopherol is also the only form that meets the latest recommended daily allowance (RDA) for vitamin E.
